Executive Branch

The Executive Branch coordinates operational aspects, promotes initiatives, and speaks on behalf of the organization. It also facilitates relationships with university administration and external entities.

 

Executive Branch | Administrative Officers

Administrative Officers
Administrative Officers provide leadership and oversight of operational aspects while advocating for students with the university administration, Champaign-Urbana community, and local, state, and federal governments.

Administrative Officers consist of the following positions:

Student Body President

  • Serves as the primary representative of the Illinois Student Body by remaining well-informed about students’ concerns and advocating for them.
  • Serves as the primary liaison to the University administration by regularly advocating for students’ interests.
  • Approves or vetoes legislation by signing their name or communicating their disapproval and rationale to the Speaker of Congress.
  • Manages external relations of ISC by communicating with relevant outside parties.

Student Body Vice President

  • Coordinate the Cabinet by sending a weekly agenda and facilitating the meeting.
  • Serves as the primary representative for internal relations by communicating with relevant internal parties
  • Assists the President with any delegated responsibilities.
  • Assumes the duties of the President upon their absence or request.

Treasurer

  • Coordinate the development of the Budget and oversee all expenditures.
  • Provide oversight for all Illinois Student Council financial transactions.
  • Advise the Executive and Legislative branches on the use of financial resources.
  • Approve all expenditures.
  • Serve as an ex officio non-voting member of the Committee on Operations.

Chief of Staff

  • Coordinate the development of the Budget and oversee all expenditures.
  • Provide oversight for all Illinois Student Council financial transactions.
  • Advise the Executive and Legislative branches on the use of financial resources.
  • Approve all expenditures.
  • Serve as an ex officio non-voting member of the Committee on Operations.

Director of Administration

  • Oversee internal programming operations.
  • Oversees the ILI Coordinator, the Membership Coordinator, the Alumni Relations Coordinator, and the Programs Coordinator.

Director of Communication & Marketing

  • Facilitate communication with the student body.
  • Oversees the Communications Coordinator, the Marketing Coordinator, and the Design Coordinator.

Director of Community & Governmental Relations

  • Lead relations between local, state, and federal government entities pertinent to student life.
  • Oversees the Champaign City Liaison, the Urbana City Liaison, the Champaign County Liaison, the State & Federal Government Liaison, and the Civic Engagement Coordinator.
  • Attend all committee meetings of the Committee on Community and Governmental Relations.

Director of Engagement

  • Facilitate engagement with campus entities relevant to the student experience.
  • Oversees the Student Experience Coordinator, the Academics Coordinator, the Campus Safety Coordinator, the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Coordinator, the Health & Wellbeing Coordinator, and the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator.
  • Consistently dialogue with the Student Trustee to ensure student advocacy is adequately addressed.

    Coordinators & Liaisons
    Coordinators and Liaisons are specialized positions that provide opportunities for students to contribute to the mission of ISC in specific ways.

    Coordinators & Liaisons consist of the following positions:

    Academics Coordinator

    • Maintains relations with university administrators pertinent to academics
    • Serves as an ex officio non-voting member of the Committee on Academic Affairs.

    Alumni Relations Coordinator

    • Works alongside the University administration to maintain relations with alums of the organization. 
    • Maintains the history and archives of the ISC. 

    Campus Safety Coordinator

    • Maintains relations with the Division of Public Safety.
    • Serves as an ex officio non-voting member of the Committee on Student Experience.

    Champaign City Liaison

    • Advocates for students' interests in the City of Champaign and attends all Champaign City Council meetings.
    • Serves as an ex officio non-voting Committee on Community & Governmental Relations member.

    Champaign County Liaison

    • Advocates for students' interests in Champaign County and attend all Champaign County Board meetings.
    • Attends the Savoy Board of Trustees meetings.
    • Serves as an ex officio non-voting Committee on Community & Governmental Relations member.

    Civic Engagement Coordinator

    • Facilitates voter registration initiatives.
    • Facilitates events to promote turnout in elections among students.
    • Facilitates community service events.

    Communications Coordinator

    • Maintains the ISC newsletter.
    • Provides official ISC statements and stances.
    • Maintains relations with the media.

    Design Coordinator 

    • Maintains all graphics and design for official ISC business.

    Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator

    • Maintains relations with University administrators pertinent to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
    • Serves as the liaison between ISC and University cultural centers.
    • Serves as an ex officio non-voting Committee on Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion member.

    Environmental Sustainability Coordinator

    • Serve as a liaison to all environmental and sustainability initiatives on campus.
    • Serve as a liaison to all transportation that impacts the Illinois student body.
    • Liaises with the MTD Board.
    • Serve as an ex officio non-voting member of the Committee on Environmental Sustainability.

    Health & Wellbeing Coordinator

    • Works with administrators to improve student Health & Wellbeing.
    • Serves as an ex officio non-voting member of the Committee on Student Experience.

    ISC Leadership Initiative (ILI) Coordinator

    • Oversees and coordinates the ISC Leadership Initiative, a program designed to foster leadership and equip students with the skills necessary to succeed as student body representatives.

    Marketing Coordinator

    • Maintains the ISC social media pages.
    • Take photographs in an official capacity for the ISC.
    • Maintains the ISC website.

    Programs Coordinator

    • Oversees coordination of ISC events. 
    • Liaises between ISC and the Illinois student organizations. 
    • Serve as a representative of the HOPE Scholarship Committee.

    State & Federal Government Liaison

    • Coordinates with the University of Illinois and the University of Illinois System staff on initiatives that impact students.
    • Serves as an ex officio non-voting Committee on Community & Governmental Relations member.

    Urbana City Liaison

    • Advocates for students' interests in the City of Urbana and attends all Urbana City Council meetings.
    • Serves as an ex officio non-voting Committee on Community & Governmental Relations member.

    Legislative Branch

    The Legislature shall advocate and deliberate for developing solutions to student concerns and desires.

    Legislative Branch | Student Representatives

    Student Representatives
    Student Representatives are selected by their respective colleges to represent students' interests and advocate for the betterment of the campus community. Meetings of the Student Representatives are called Student Congress Meetings and are held on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters while class is in session.     Illinois Student Council Standing Committees, Ad Hoc Committees, and Task Forces provide engagement opportunities to address key issues impacting the Illinois Student Body.

    Standing Committees consist of the following:

    The purpose of this committee shall be to advocate for practical educational policies to support all students' academic needs and preferences. In addition, this committee shall focus on fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible learning environment.

    Graduate & Professional Student Government Task Force (ends April 11, 2024)

    **This Task Force has not been renewed for the 2024-2025 academic year. Once it has been renewed, the Chairperson and members will be updated.

    The Graduate & Professional Student Government (GPSG) Task Force was created to conduct research into the creation of an Illinois GPSG, including, but not limited to, the organization’s structure, university advisor(s), proposed membership, relationship with other campus organizations, and structure of similar organizations at peer institutions.

    The Task Force is charged with the following tasks:

    1. Determine an ideal timeline for the creation and implementation of a Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG);
    2. Research the structure and membership of other GPSG at peer institutions and non-peer institutions with consideration for practicable implementation at Illinois;
    3. Meet with the Graduate Employee Organization to understand how to develop the relationship between the GPSG and GEO;
    4. Liaise with the Illinois Graduate College and the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Success, Inclusion & Belonging to determine the best structure and placement within the University for the GPSG;
    5. Make recommendations to Illinois Student Council in the form of legislation regarding future actions, outreach, and advocacy regarding the creation of a GPSG.

      Ethics Board

      The Ethics Board's purpose is to, when an issue is raised, fact find and determine if a violation of the governing documents has occurred and any consequences. The Ethics Board is not a policing body but rather a behavioral intervention body charged with intervening after the code of conduct has been broken. Members can appeal the committee’s decision to the Student Congress. The Board is comprised evenly of executive and legislative members.
